Trim Levels
The 2018 Ford Edge comes in four trims for the model year: SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport. The entry-level SE comes with some nice exterior specs such as 18-inch silver sparkle alloy wheels, automatic halogen headlamps, a rear spoiler, dual-tipped exhaust, LED tail-lamps, and a chrome grille. At the SEL level, the Edge gets LED signature lighting, heated power side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, and chrome molding. The Titanium adds 19-inch nickel-painted aluminum alloy wheels and solar glass, while the Sport offers a customized exhaust and fascia, a piano-black grille, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Give the 2018 Ford Edge a bit of personality with your choice of 10 exterior colors, including Blue Metallic, Burgundy Velvet, Ingot Silver, Lightning Blue, Magnetic Metallic, Oxford White, Ruby Red, Shadow Black, White Gold, and White Platinum.
Engine
The SE, SEL, and Titanium come with a standard turbocharged, twin-scroll, 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that churns out 245 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque, although all these trims can opt for the larger 3.5-liter V-6 that gets 280 horsepower and up to 250 pound-feet of torque. The real show stealer is under the hood of the Sport. Here you'll find a twin-turbo, 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine that's good for 315 horsepower and up to 350 pound-feet of torque. All engines pair with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but intelligent all-wheel drive is optional.
Performance
If you put a premium on fuel economy, the Edge delivers even with its larger frame. With the 2.0-liter engine, the Edge gets 29 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city, while the 3.5-liter produces 26 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg in the city. With the 2.7-liter, you sacrifice some efficiency for power, but it still offers a decent 24 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg in the city. Depending on the setup and equipment, the Edge can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Interior
The interior of the Edge is where this crossover really starts to shine. The roomy cabin accommodates up to five passengers while offering a cargo space of up to 73.4 cubic feet. Other highlights include loads of tech features like the SYNC 3 infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, SiriusXM satellite radio, and available heated leather seating.
Safety
Thanks to a mix of active, passive, and driver-assist safety features, the 2018 Ford Edge earns a perfect five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Safe and Smart Package is essential for the safety-conscious, offering a plethora of driver-assist safety features. This includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and more.
