Trim Levels
The 2018 Ford F-150 comes in seven trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, Raptor, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. On the job-friendly XL trim, the F-150 boasts exterior specs such as daytime running lamps, automatic halogen headlamps, and 17-inch steel wheels. The XLT bumps up to 17-inch silver-painted alloy wheels, fog lamps, chrome bumpers, and privacy glass. The Lariat adds on a tailgate LED, power-sliding rear glass, LED box lighting, and 18-inch alloy wheels; while the go-anywhere Raptor tacks on a unique Ford block-letter grille, all-terrain tires, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, and skid plates. With the King Ranch trim, the F-150 gets two-tone paint, heated and auto-dimming side mirrors with integrated turn signals, and LED fog lamps. Ford opts for 20-inch alloy wheels on the Platinum, along with an exclusive satin chrome grille and power running boards. The Limited rounds out the lineup with 22-inch wheels and a twin-panel moonroof.
Engine
Under the hood, the 2018 Ford F-150 comes with five impressive engine options. The standard engine found on the XL and XLT is a 3.3-liter V-6 that pumps out 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The Lariat upgrades to a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6. Although it's a bit smaller, the turbocharger kicks this engine into hyperdrive, offering 325 horsepower and up to 400 pound-feet of torque. The high-performance Raptor comes with its own specially tuned 3.5-liter high-output V-6 that's good for an amazing 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The King Ranch and Platinum versions come with a monstrous 5.0-liter V-8 to make 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, while the fully loaded Limited goes with a 3.5-liter V-6 for 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. These engines pair with either a six-speed or 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Rear-wheel drive comes standard on each F-150, but if you're looking to hit the open road, an upgrade to four-wheel drive is essential. Depending on the setup and the engine, the Ford F-150 can tow between 9,000 and 13,200 pounds, putting it at the top of the segment. Throw in a max payload of 3,230 feet, and the truck is a true force.
Interior
The interior of the F-150 is as simple or as lavish as you want it to be. While the XL and XLT have the bare essentials, options on upper trims include a touch-screen infotainment system, automatic climate control, leather-trimmed seating, heated seats, and even wood-grain accents.
Safety
The 2018 Ford F-150 earns a perfect five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Standout safety features include the newly available automated emergency braking system and adaptive cruise control to go alongside standard specs such as multistage air bags and a dynamic rearview camera.
