Trim Levels
The 2018 Taurus comes in four trims. The base SE trim has a starting price of $27,690, the SEL trim $30,120, and the Limited trim $37,200. The high-end SHO trim will cost you a basic price of $43,865. This trim offers added features such as HID headlamps and firmer suspension. The Taurus sports a distinctive front end with a bold grille, as well as LED signature lighting. SE, SEL, and Limited trims come standard with a chrome-tipped exhaust, whereas the SHO sports a dual exhaust system. SE, SEL, and Limited trims feature 19-inch Luster Nickel-painted aluminum wheels, whereas the SHO trim boasts 20-inch Ebony Black-painted machined aluminum wheels with painted sockets.
Engine
Two V-6 engines are available with the Taurus. Standard on the SE, SEL and Limited trims, is a 3.5-liter Ti-VCT engine that delivers 288 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is rated at 18 mpg in the city, and 27 mpg on the highway. It is paired with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, which you can override to go into manual control if you wish. For more power, opt for the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that kicks out 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. This engine, which comes standard with the SHO trim, is paired to a firmer suspension and special steering tuning. It will give you 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Performance
Although the Taurus is a large sedan, it offers a comfortable and precise ride. The SHO trim offers unique sport-tuned shock absorbers, springs, stabilizer bars and strut mount bushings, which all work together to ensure greater control and agility. The Torque Vectoring Control and Curve system comes standard with all Taurus trims, which gives your car a better grip through corners, slows it down when it senses that you are going too fast into a curve, and overall affords you greater control. The featured Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) provides pull-drift compensation and also helps with road irregularities.
Interior
The interior is spacious, providing ample room for up to five people, while the wood-adorning adds warmth to the overall feel. Very impressive is the 20.1-cubic-foot trunk, which is one of the roomiest around. The SE and SEL models feature durable upholstery, while the Limited and SHO trims boast leather covering, as well as heated and cooled seats. Standard with the SE are power windows and locks, six-way power front seats, rear-view camera, 4.2-inch screen, and six-speaker system. Optional features include an 8-inch screen with Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Sony-branded speakers.
Safety
The Taurus offers a variety of available safety options, such as the Adaptive Cruise Control system that automatically slows your car down when it detects that traffic is slowing, and also resumes the original speed of your car afterward. Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support alerts you if it detects any possibility of a collision, and Lane-Keeping Assist, which operates both day and night, helps to keep you in your lane.
