2020 Ford Explorer
The 2020 Ford Explorer is a versatile SUV that's ready to take on the highways and byways whenever you're ready for an adventure. Take a look at some of it's best features.
Trim Levels
With four trims to choose from, you're sure to find the perfect fit for your adventures. Choose your ride from the XLT, Limited, ST, or Platinum models.
Engine
Power is part of the total package of the 2020 Explorer with the availability of powerful engines to support your on-road and off-road excursions. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost carries over from 2019. New to 2020 is the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6. Two transmissions support the engines; the six-speed automatic and the 10-speed enhanced.
The 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine has been revamped to provide more power. The engine produces 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The new 3.0-liter V-6 also brings more power to the Platinum model producing 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The ST trim takes power to another level with the engine producing 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
The SUV performs with plenty of power and precision thanks to the upgraded engines and the enhanced efficiency of the 10-speed transmission. The upgrades have affected the overall performance with quicker acceleration and easier movement when upshifting and downshifting. The upgrades had a positive effect on the 2.3-liter that resulted in an increase in the engine's horsepower by 10 and 15 pound-feet to the torque rating. The Explorer has a competitive fuel economy. The rear-wheel drive 2.3-liter has an estimated combined EPA of 24 miles per gallon (mpg). The 2.3-liter all-wheel drive has a combined rating of 23 mpg and the 3.0-liter all-wheel drive has a combined rating of 20 mpg.
Interior
The six-passenger SUV is fitted with a driver and passenger front bucket seat, second-row captain's chairs equipped with power-assist fold, and a third-row two-person 50/50 bench seat. All seating offers decent leg and headroom. The interior is fitted with cloth upholstery, the front passenger seat is four-way power-adjustable, and the driver's seat is 10-way power adjustable. Available options to upgrade the interior include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, second-row heated seats, third-row seats with power folding, front seats with massage, front passenger seat with 10-way power adjustments, and a heated steering wheel. Standard technology features are generous in the 2020 Explorer. These include the SYNC 3 system, remote start, push-button start, an 8-inch touch screen, satellite radio, tri-zone automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, and two USB ports in the front seating and in the second-row.
Options are available to enhance the technology such as a 10.1-inch touch screen, premium Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker sound system, wireless device charging, a 12.3-inch driver display, and a rear seat dual headrest entertainment system.
Safety Features
The Explorer has plenty of standard features in place for passenger safety. The SUV comes with the Co-Pilot360 advanced safety system, which includes lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, post-collision braking, rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, and forward automatic emergency braking. For children, there are two sets of LATCH connectors in both the second- and third-rows.
