We're not psychics. We can't predict the future. When Ford said it was bringing back the Ranger nameplate in 2019, we could only guess what it will look like. After all, this smaller pickup truck has been out of production for years... or has it?
In fact, the Ford Ranger has continued to be sold globally, launching a new generation the very year it was discontinued in the United States. The new version of the Ranger is a midsize pickup, a bit larger than its compact predecessor.
Can this global version tell us anything about the upcoming 2019 model?
Autoblog seems to think so, as they sent their executive editor all the way to New Zealand to test one out. They featured a Ranger Wildtrak, a sporty-looking orange truck with orange contrast stitching on the interior, a diesel engine, and off-road features like 4-high mode and hill descent control.
Of course, by the time the Ranger arrives in America for 2019, it may be completely redesigned for a new generation, will almost definitely be styled differently and offer different features, and probably won't come in a diesel (though it could, with the F-150 gaining a diesel option).
