Located in the northeastern corner of the state, West Liberty, KY is the seat of Morgan County and has a population of a little under 3,500. Although this is a small town, its location makes it a good place from where visitors can go on exciting road trips to explore beautiful destinations in Kentucky and West Virginia. 1. Louisville, KY

The largest urban area in Kentucky is an excellent road trip destination for solo travelers, groups of friends, and families looking for a big city full of culture, history, and good gastronomy. The Louisville metropolitan area is home to over 1,2 million inhabitants, placing it among the 30 most populous cities in the United States. Each year, it receives thousands of tourists coming from all over the country.

Louisville is known for being the hometown of boxer Muhammad Ali, as well as the site of the original Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. The most important growth period for the city, however, took place in the 19th Century, when its location along the banks of the Ohio River helped it become an important shipping port. Some of the most famous local attractions in Louisville include the Louisville Slugger Museum, Churchill Downs, the Muhammad Ali Center, and the Speed Art Museum.

2. Daniel Boone National Forest, KY

The Daniel Boone National Forest was established in 1937 and is one of the largest green areas you can find around West Liberty. Covering an area of more than two million acres, it is a great road trip destination for anyone wanting to check out the local flora and fauna while enjoying some of the most beautiful views in the entire state of Kentucky. This national forest receives more than two and a half million visitors each year.

Some of the most popular recreation activities at the Daniel Boone National Forest include hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and horse riding. This nature reserve covers part of the Cumberland River and the Laurel River Lake, making it a prime spot for water sports and fishing. Getting to the entrance of the Daniel Boone National Forest from the West Liberty city center takes a little over two hours by car, driving along route KY-11 S.

3. Charleston, WV

The capital and most populous city in the state of West Virginia is another excellent road trip spot for West Liberty locals in search of a place to check out historical monuments, landmark buildings, cultural centers, museums, restaurants, and cafés. With a population of a little over 200,000, Charleston is home to several local attractions, including the West Virginia State Museum, the Capitol Market, and the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
