West Liberty, KY is a small town that sits in Morgan County – known as the bluegrass county of the mountains. The landscape is vast and beautiful, featuring rolling hills, expansive valleys, and meandering creeks that wind through the county. 1. Giovanni’s
Giovanni’s is a local staple for the citizens of West Liberty. They produce hot, fresh pies in short order for a reasonable price. The welcoming staff is friendly and knowledgeable and makes you feel at home when you dine in. One of the biggest crowd-pleasers at Gio’s are the famed pizza squares. Talk to any of the locals, and an order of the squares will likely be their first suggestion. They also make a mean Stromboli.
2. Kel’s Patriot Pizza
Kel’s Patriot Pizza is a little roadside attraction that’s off the beaten path but worth the trip. It’s essentially a food truck with made-to-order pies that do not disappoint. They also serve sandwiches, fries, and onion rings if you’re not in the mood for pizza. It’s a great place to stop after you’ve worked up an appetite hiking the Red River Gorge. You can expect a bit of a wait as all of their pies are made from scratch.
3. Pasquales Pizza & Pasta
Known as the oldest restaurant in Morehead, Kentucky, Pasquales has been serving fresh, made-to-order food for over 50 years. They serve everything you could imagine here, and although the pizza is tremendous, the calzones, hot ham sandwiches, and cheese fries should all make your list of things to try. It’s a simple establishment with friendly staff and great service. There’s a brewpub across the street where you can enjoy a nightcap. Just don’t drink and drive.
4. Mr. Gatti’s Pizza
Gatti’s originated in Texas in 1964, and they’ve been expanding across the country ever since. They focus on fresh ingredients and quality, and everything is made to order. The classic pepperoni pizza is a can’t miss, and you’ll enjoy the perfect pep-cups that look like they’re out of a magazine. If you have dietary restrictions, they’ll be happy to customize your order for you. The portions are large here, so you won’t be leaving hungry.
