Ice Fishing on Cave Run Lake

Ice fishing on Cave Run Lake is a tradition that dates back to the 1800s. Today, there are many opportunities to try your hand at catching walleye, but the best opportunity may be on the ice! The lake is open year-round, but if you’re looking to try your hand at ice fishing, November through March are the best months. To start, the best way to find open holes is by walking the shoreline.
Avoid walking on the ice, as you won’t be able to spot the holes. The shoreline is your best friend! Once you’re aware of where the holes are, you can try baiting your line. The best baits for ice fishing are bread and breadcrumbs, cornmeal, wheat, oats, or cornstarch. Cave Run Lake is located at 2375 Ky Highway 801 S, Morehead.

Snowmobiling at Red Bird State Forest

In order to be considered a snowmobiler, you’ll need to know how to operate a snowmobile. Specifically, you’ll need to know how to ride it. If you’re looking to get into snowmobiling, this is the place to start. If you’re looking to get out on the trails, you’ll need to think about the time of year.
You’ll want to go between November and March because that’s when there’s enough snow to ride around on the trails. Red Bird State Forest is located at 91 Big Creek Rd, Peabody.

From skiing and snowmobiling to ice fishing and hunting, you can find something to do that will bring you great pleasure. Before you leave, make sure to bundle up and fill up the gas tank!
