2021 Ford Mach-E

It’s not often we get a new addition to the Mustang family, but when we do, it’s usually a sports car. And it’s usually gasoline-powered. The Mach-E is an exception to both these rules. Despite your assumptions about the Mustang name, Ford has chosen to deliver something fresh and exciting: an all-electric compact SUV.

These are four of the best features of the exciting and unexpected Ford Mustang Mach-E.

All-Electric Power

You might like the Mustang for its 0-60 thrills, and the good news for drivers of the Mach-E is this aspect carries over to the compact SUV. The Mach-E delivers an all-electric driving experience without sacrificing power or convenience. The electric SUV is powered by either a 68 or 88 kWh lithium-ion battery, depending on which trim you select. It has a one-speed automatic transmission.

The base model comes with a rear-wheel drivetrain that can hit 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. It has a top speed of 130 mph. Built with the optional extended-range rear-wheel-drive system, the Mach-E has a targeted EPA-estimated 300-mile range. With a DC fast charger, you can get enough juice to cover 61 miles in just 10 minutes.

Sleek, Noticeably Mustang Exterior

It’s not a muscle car, but you could call it a “muscle SUV.” The Mach-E lives up to this title not only for its impressive all-electric power but also for its exterior styling. At a glance, the compact SUV has the aggressive frame and badging that easily distinguish it as part of the Mustang family.

Interior Technology

A focus on electric power isn’t the only innovative aspect of this vehicle. Inside, you’ll find an array of the latest safety and convenience features at your fingertips. The Mach-E has a modern dashboard with a digital gauge cluster and a large vertically mounted touch screen. From here you can control many of the SUV’s settings and functions. The vehicle will roll out with Ford’s latest version of the Sync system.

SUV Utility

It’s easy to get distracted by this vehicle’s fuel efficiency and power and forget that it’s an SUV. The Mach-E meets the expectations of a utility vehicle, offering an available electric all-wheel-drive system. This combines a primary electric motor on the rear axle with a secondary electric motor on the front axle. The result is improved performance, traction, and acceleration. The Mach-E has 29 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 60 cubic feet of space if you fold the back seats. It’s rated with a 1,500-pound towing capacity, which is fine for light hauling.

The Mach-E is a head-turning vehicle thanks to its stylish Mustang roots and its zero-emissions power. Plus, it has an approachable MSRP compared to many other models. Starting at $44,995, the Mach-E is on the low end of the average price in the electric market. Expect these SUVs to hit the streets in late 2020. Additional versions of the vehicle will launch on a rolling schedule through Spring 2021.
