1. Whittleton Campground

When it comes to stunning views, it’s hard to beat what’s offered at Whittleton Campground. It’s conveniently located near Red River Gorge, a dramatic rocky area that is a landscape photographer’s dream. Whittleton Campground features over 40 campsites that are suitable for both RV and primitive campers. Depending on which site you opt for, your site can hold up to eight campers.

There are plenty of amenities and activities offered by Whittleton Campground, as well. Picnic and shower areas are available within the camp loop and pets are allowed on-site. Fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing are just a few of the top activities at this campground.

2. Paintsville Lake State Park

One of the most activity- and feature-rich camping areas in the area is Paintsville Lake State Park. It’s just about 40 minutes outside of West Liberty, but it’s worth the trip. Regardless of what time of year it is, you’ll find excellent camping opportunities available to you. They also have sites for both primitive and RV campers. There are a total of 32 campsites available to choose from.

In regard to activities, you’ll find everything from walking trails to boat rentals. In the winter, the park attracts cross-country skiers, as well. Other park activities include biking, fishing, horseshoes, and volleyball. The stunning landscape that includes cliffs and pockets of dense woodland is sure to impress any outdoor lover.

3. Koomer Ridge Campground

This amazing campground is also located near the beautiful Red River Gorge. There are over 100 campsites available that are accessible to both RV and primitive campers. On Saturdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day, they have live entertainment at the amphitheater area.

There are also plenty of great activities to enjoy while staying at the campgrounds. There’s no shortage of hiking, fishing, or other water sports activities within the grounds and nearby. More extreme sports such as off-roading, horseback riding, and rock climbing are also close.

4. Carter Caves Campground

The last, but not least, of our featured campsites near West Liberty, Kentucky, is Carter Caves Campground. In addition to over 125 campsites, there are also cottages you can stay at if you prefer cozier accommodations. The landscape around the campground will help you reconnect with nature, and there are lots of different things to see such as caves, forests, waterfalls, and rivers. On-site or nearby activities include wildlife viewing, fishing, hiking, climbing, and horseback riding.
