Families gathered in a parkA charming, hospitable town in eastern Kentucky, West Liberty has plenty of fun-filled activities for families. With so many things to do and the scenic countryside beckoning everyone for an outdoor adventure, you won’t have trouble getting the kids out of the house for an entire day.

  1. Old Mill Park 

The beautifully landscaped Old Mill Park is great for picnics and has playgrounds for younger and older kids. Your children will have a whale of a time with the slides, swings, monkey bars, and climbing equipment, and there are also outdoor drums for music-making. There is a net for volleyball and badminton, and spacious areas for playing Frisbee, kickball, and football. If you don’t want to join in, relax on a bench and enjoy the park scenery.

  1. White Oak Pumpkin Patch

Visit the White Oak Pumpkin Patch to introduce your children to over 60 pumpkin varieties. After picking pumpkins, your children can enjoy tractor rides and have a go at finding their way out of the corn maze. They can meet the animals in the petting zoo and play games on the playground.  If your child has a birthday coming up, the farm hosts birthday parties.

  1. Fannin’s Vegetable Farm

Along with pumpkins and gourds, Fannin’s Vegetable Farm offers visitors a wide range of fresh vegetables. Your children can learn about different vegetable types and how the farm grows them. The farm also cultivates chrysanthemums.

  1. Joe Stacy Recreational Complex

Children can take part in softball and baseball games at the complex, or go with their parents for a stroll along the walking trail around the spacious grounds. Aside from the softball and baseball fields, the complex has an equestrian park with horse-riding opportunities. Be sure to visit if your children love horses.

  1. Morgan County Wellness and Youth Center 

The center offers a variety of indoor exercise and sporting activities for children as well as adults. You can play a basketball game on one of the four courts, stroll around the walking track, or try out the gym equipment. The center organizes various classes you can sign up for if interested.

  1. Yocum Creek Falls

Hike through the Kentucky wilderness to Yocum Creek and see the picturesque Upper and Lower Yocum Falls. There are many rare plants in the area, along with lichens, mosses, and towering trees, so your children will have a fine opportunity to see and learn about the local flora.

  1. Morgan County History Museum

Learn about West Liberty’s eventful past. Run by the Morgan County Historical Society, the museum showcases items from local history and has a broad collection of military artifacts.

  1. Visit a Horse Farm

Several local horse farms offer riding lessons and other horse-related activities for kids. Call ahead to arrange a visit. You may have to drive several miles out of West Liberty, but the visit will likely be an unforgettable experience and well worth the short trip.
