2020 Ford Explorer

The 2020 Ford Explorer boasts a brand-new design, inside and out. Although the 2020 model has retained the unibody construction of its predecessor, it features a new rear-wheel-drive system that makes for better handling, improved overall balance, and more towing stability.

In addition, the 2020 Explorer also comes with increased cargo and passenger space. The SUV can either seat seven, or six if you opt for the second-row captain’s chairs, and all passengers are afforded ample head- and legroom. When you need a large cargo area, simply fold the second- and third-row seats flat to provide you with 87.8 cubic feet of space.

With the 2020 Explorer comes a new hybrid model, which features a 3.3-liter V-6 engine paired with an electric motor and a 1.5-kW battery. Here’s some information on the other trims, to help you decide which trim is best-suited to your needs.

XLT

The XLT offers a lot of convenient features at a relatively affordable price. It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter engine that makes 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, but you can also opt for an all-wheel-drive system. Standard exterior features include 18-inch aluminum wheels, LED head- and taillights, a power liftgate, LED signature lighting, and heated mirrors.

The interior offers many convenient features, including tri-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a rearview camera, remote start, and cloth upholstery. With the infotainment system comes a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot, an 8-inch display, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, six speakers, and satellite radio. Standard driver-assist features include lane-keeping and reverse sensing.

Limited

If you want more creature comforts, opt for the Limited trim. Added exterior features include 20-inch aluminum wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips, a hands-free and foot-activated liftgate, LED fog lamps, power-folding mirrors with LED turn-signal indicators, and rain-sensing wipers. Inside the Limited, you’ll find an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, a PowerFold third row, navigation, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.

ST

Those who like a sportier drive should opt for the ST trim, which boasts a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine that kicks out 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. In addition, this trim comes with a unique sport-tuned independent front and rear suspension, a terrain management system, quad chrome exhaust tips, LED taillights with a unique blackout treatment, and hill descent control. The cabin of the ST features a unique ST interior trim that includes a sport-style steering wheel with the ST logo. This trim also adds active park assist.

Platinum

The top Platinum trim features a detuned, yet still powerful version of the 3.0-liter engine featured with the ST, which generates 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. With this trim also comes an added twin-panel moonroof, a satin-finish aluminum grille, satin-finish aluminum side roof rack rails, and tri-diamond perforated leather with accent stitching.

Offering excellent performance, a spacious interior, and plenty of convenient and modern features, the Explorer is an SUV to be reckoned with. To get to know the different trims on offer with this SUV a bit better, pop by Hutch Ford Lincoln and take these models for a spin.
