Whether it’s a rib-eye, T-bone, or tenderloin, Americans love our steaks. From the crispy sear to the juicy, red middle, it’s hard to beat a cut of beef that’s been grilled to perfection. Next time you’ve got a craving for steak that just won’t quit, head to one of these three restaurants in the West Liberty area where you can order up a delicious steak and satisfy your need-to-feed.

1. Cattleman’s Road House

Located at 304 Silver Lake Drive in Mt. Sterling, Cattleman’s Road House leads our restaurant list for a few reasons. It’s conveniently located next door to the Comfort Inn. If you’re passing through the West Liberty area, it’s a terrific place with plenty of parking to fuel up with a hearty meal before hitting the road. But, what about the steaks?

Choose from the gold-certified, top sirloin, or the 12-ounce prime rib. No? There’s always the lean and tender Gentlemen John’s filet or an 18-ounce porterhouse. If your mouth isn’t watering yet, you must be holding out for The Sheriff. The most massive steak in the lineup, this 20-ounce top sirloin is aged for 30 days.

Cattleman’s salad bar is a high point and local favorite with plenty of fresh ingredients, and a wide selection of sides and dressings. Have a drink in the bar after dinner. Cattleman’s offers several wines and an impressive choice of bourbons. This is one popular restaurant with reasonable prices, and it can get crowded on weekends. Get ready for a twenty-minute wait during peak hours.

2. Dukes of Hazard Steakhouse and Daniel Boone Tavern

Don’t let the name fool you. The Daniel Boone Tavern on 90 Boone Ridge Road in Hazard is something special. It’s a great local gem with one of the best 8-, 10-, and 12-ounce New York strips in town. Add live music, and you’ve got yourself an honest to goodness hoedown.

Come as you are in your casual attire and sample the appetizer combo. It’s piled high with all your favorites, including onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and pickle chips. Move on to the prime rib with all the fixin’s from sauteed mushrooms to macaroni and cheese. Make sure to leave room for dessert. The warm apple crumb tart is scrumptious.

3. The Winchester

When you’re looking for something a bit out of the ordinary, head to The Winchester inside the Delta by Marriott Hotel. Located at 1441 Winchester Ave. in nearby Ashland, this upscale restaurant offers certified Angus steaks, freshly-caught seafood, and classic pasta dishes, plus more than 70 of the world’s finest bourbons.

Steak lovers will head right to the “Meats” menu to peruse the options. All the steaks served at The Winchester are tossed in the housemade marinade or a dry steak seasoning and prepared in the sous vide culinary technique. Get a “bottomless salad” and signature side dish with each entree.
