2020 Ford Explorer

The all-new 2020 Ford Explorer SUV is capable and versatile. It has a refined, muscular look, and it’s a favorite for families and people who love exploring off-road. This vehicle has lots of improvements over the 2019 model.

A Newly Designed Exterior

The 2020 Explorer has a curved grille that blends well with its narrow LED headlights, and the Ford Blue Oval is in the center. Four trim levels are available: XLT, Limited, ST, and Platinum. Standard features include manually folding, heated power side mirrors, and roof rails. You can add rain-sensing windshield wipers, self-sealing tires, and fog lights as well.

The Limited has chrome dual exhaust and a foot-activated liftgate, and the ST comes with quad exhaust, and power folding side mirrors. Choose the Platinum trim level for adaptive headlights that turn when you turn the steering wheel for better visibility. It also comes with memory settings for the side mirrors.

A New Trim Level

The ST replaces 2019’s Sport trim level. It comes with a unique, sport-tuned independent suspension, 20-inch aluminum wheels, and a heated, sport-style steering wheel with the ST logo and paddle shifters. It also has refined leather seats with silver accent stitching. You can add 21-inch wheels as well.

Enhanced Performance

The 2020 Explorer comes with rear-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission for better handling, maneuverability, and stability when towing. Roll stability control and trailer sway control are standard. You can add four-wheel-drive with Ford’s Terrain Management System. Choose Normal, Trail, Deep Snow/Sand, Slippery, Sport, Tow/Haul, or Eco mode.

The base XLT has a turbocharged, 2.3-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. That’s more horsepower and more torque than 2019’s four-cylinder engine. For the first time, a 3.3-liter hybrid V-6 engine is optional with the Limited. It’s connected to a 1.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery back that’s buried in the floor, and it offers 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. Choose the Platinum or the ST for a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 that provides 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. This motor can also tow up to 5,600 pounds.

A More Comfortable Interior

The interior of the 2020 Ford Explorer looks sleek and luxurious. The second-row seats slide forward with the touch of a button to make getting in and out easy, and it has up to 87 cubic feet of cargo space. It comes with a 12-speaker sound system, tri-zone climate control, dome lights in all three rows, push-button start, three 12-volt power outlets, remote start, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

You can add a rotary gear shifter, power folding third-row seats, a 10.1-inch touch screen, voice-activated navigation, or a 980-watt, 14-speaker sound system. The Platinum and the ST come with a customizable, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, parking assistance, a universal garage door opener, and heated second-row seats as well.
