Engine and Drivetrain
Underneath the hood of every 2022 Ranger is a 2.3L inline-4 engine with twin-scroll turbocharging. This increases efficiency and eliminates virtually all turbo lag. The punchy engine produces 270 horsepower and class-leading torque at 310 lb-ft. Ford’s 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission delivers that power to the drive wheels with impressive speed and precision. Its three overdrive gears allow for easier cruising.
The Ranger comes available in two options: the lighter rear-wheel-drive layout with 8.4 inches of ground clearance, or 4-wheel drive with an additional half-inch of clearance. When the truck is equipped with the Tremor Off-Road Package, off-roading enthusiasts can take advantage of 9.7 inches of ground clearance. The handy Terrain Management System is also available and offers several drive modes that can adapt to muddy, snowy, or sandy conditions.
Hauling Capability
Plenty of space is available in the Ranger’s bed for hauling heavy cargo. SuperCab models will come with a 6-foot bed, while the SuperCrew offers 5 feet. Depending on the selected model, the truck can carry over 1,800 pounds of payload. On top of that, it’s capable of towing up to 7,500 pounds when the Trailer Tow Package is selected. Included with the package is a trailer hitch and 4/7-pin connector.
Splash Package
Harkening back to the ’80s and ’90s, the available Splash Package brings a cool retro style to the Ranger. Black and orange graphics run along the body of the truck while the front grille is accented with orange trim. The package also features bumpers, fender vents, and wheel lip moldings with a glossy black finish. Unique 18-inch wheels finished in a matte black help to complete the look.
Interior
Rangers in the SuperCab configuration have room for four while the SuperCrew seats five. The seating itself is supportive and comfortable enough to keep passengers feeling cozy on longer trips. Lariat models come standard with genuine leather upholstery and heated front seats for added comfort. Keeping valuable items away from the view of prying eyes is no problem thanks to storage space underneath the rear seats.
Infotainment System and Connectivity
Coming as an option on the base XL and standard on XLT and Lariat trims, the 8-inch SYNC 3 infotainment touchscreen system offers the ability to integrate your smartphone through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. All trims also provide FordPass Connect’s 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, which allows up to 10 devices to connect to the internet simultaneously with a range of up to 50 feet.
The available navigation system is easy to operate with voice commands and features SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. Audiophiles have the option of experiencing premium sound from a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen system.
