Kids Place Adventure Playground
Billed as the largest indoor adventure playground, Kids Place Adventure Playground is in Lexington and offers colorful ball baths, exciting slides, a bouncy moonwalk, and a challenging obstacle course. Don’t forget to pack socks for your children to wear while playing. Once they’re done running around, the kids can play games such as air hockey, video games, and skeeball. They can win tickets from these games to exchange for great prizes.
Mammoth Cave National Park
As the world’s longest known cave system, Mammoth Cave National Park consists of more than 400 miles. Found in part of the Green River valley system in south central Kentucky, the national park has ranger-led activities dependent upon the season.
Take your family on the Frozen Niagara Tour, which is a little more than an hour long and perfect for families. Another option is the Mammoth Passage Tour, which takes you to one of the largest rooms in the cave known as the rotunda. Keep in mind that although not required, reservations are recommended but cannot be made the day of your tour.
Paradise Cove Aquatic Center
Located in Richmond, Paradise Cove Aquatic Center runs from late May through early September and gives your kids a chance to bask in the sunshine while cooling off in the water. Opened in 2008, the facility features a pool with diving boards, a rock climbing wall, and rope swing. There’s also a zero-depth entry pool with a kids’ play structure with water sprays and a dumping bucket.
For younger kids, they can enjoy a smaller slide and a shallow pool. Older kids can check out the whirlpool and open swim areas. The main attractions are the 40-feet slides with one a straight chute and the other a spiral slide. Breaks are called every hour at 10 minutes to the hour, and adults can participate in these rest breaks.
Wild Things! of Kentucky
Found in nearby Slade about one mile from the Natural Bridge State Park, Wild Things! of Kentucky allows you and your children a chance to get up close with some of the state’s most interesting creatures. View rattlesnakes and Copperhead snakes behind a double-pane tempered glass, look at live scorpions on display, and purchase an ice cream cone filled with goat nibbles to feed the goats that live on the rooftop. Your kids will enjoy the gem mine, where they can bag their own treasures.
These four places near West Liberty are perfect for you to enjoy an afternoon with your children. Bring them on a tour of the state’s largest cave system, see rattlesnakes up close, and take turns spraying each other with water at the aquatic center. If the weather is bad, don’t worry because they can run around at an indoor playground.
