In West Liberty, Kentucky, you and your family members can enjoy beautiful weather and bright fall colors. You can go hiking, fish, have a picnic, or just explore this picturesque region. Here are some of the best parks in the West Liberty area.

Old Mill Park

Visit Old Mill Park for a playground that kids love, two walking trails, an outdoor workout area, picnic shelters with tables, swings, outdoor grills, and more. It’s in West Liberty on the shores of the Licking River, and its beautiful scenery makes it ideal for photographs.

Edmund Wells completed his grist mill here in 1816, and West Liberty used to be called Wells Mill. It’s a great place for birthday parties, family reunions, races, and other special events. Catch a concert at the natural amphitheater. It has a covered stage and plenty of seats. You can also go fishing in the river or enjoy the interesting rock garden next to the fountain. You can reserve picnic tables and grills for large groups of people.

DeLancey Park

DeLancey Park is in Cannel City, about 20 minutes away from West Liberty. It’s named for William DeLancey Walbridge, the president of the Ohio and Kentucky Railroad and the Kentucky Block Cannel Coal Company. After 1901, Cannel City was the operations hub for the coal company, and it used the railroad to ship its product. The well that was used by steam-powered trains to water their engines is over 100 years old and it’s still standing. The park also has an original train caboose, a bank vault, a picnic area, and a walking trail.

Tredway Memorial Park

This park has the only military monument dedicated to women in the state, and it’s only one of 12 in the entire country. The Morgan County Woman’s Club funded the monument, consisting of bronze statues of three service members. They represent the military women of the past, present, and future.

A woman with a skirt and a clipboard symbolizes the clerical jobs that women filled in the early days of women in the military. A kneeling woman in sunglasses, combat fatigues, and a helmet represents the women who are currently serving, and a commanding officer with ribbons and regalia salutes the American flag for future female military members. Visiting Tredway Memorial Park is a great way to teach kids about women in the military while enjoying the outdoors. The park also has a tank, a Vietnam memorial, a walking trail, a gazebo, and a picnic shelter.

Grayson Lake State Park

This park covers more than 1,500 acres and is filled with sandstone canyons and gently sloping hills. It has beautiful hiking trails and the Hidden Cove Golf Course is on the shore of Grayson Lake. It’s in Olive Hill, about an hour away from West Liberty, and it’s a popular place for boating, canoeing, fishing, and viewing wildlife as well.

Visiting one of these parks is a great way to spend time with your family, get some exercise, and enjoy nature. You can explore for the entire day or just spend an hour or two at one of these excellent parks.
