If you are looking for a place to get away for the weekend, you don’t have to travel far from West Liberty to find something. 1. Daniel Boone National Forest

Take a drive to Daniel Boone National Forest and spend the weekend enjoying the outdoors. This national forest offers cabin rentals, campground camping, and RV camping, so you can choose what type of accommodations you prefer. Once you get settled in, there are tons of things to do. Explore the miles of hiking trails, or bring your bikes and take a ride. There is also fishing in the lakes, ponds, and rivers, and swimming is allowed in most of the forest waters except if posted otherwise.

3. Carter Caves State Resort Park

A weekend getaway to Carter Caves State Resort Park offers lots of outdoor things to do. This park has many natural bridges, including Smoky Bridge, the largest natural bridge in the state and the only one with a paved road. During your stay, make sure to stop by the Carter Caves Gem Mine to try your luck at finding gemstones. You can also go caving. Local companies offer guided tours year-round, so you can go exploring deep in the caves.

If you want to get out on the water, there is canoeing on Smoky Lake. The park also has a large pool, playgrounds for the kids, and a miniature golf course.

4. Louisville

Louisville is a few hours away, but it is worth the drive for a long weekend getaway. Stay at a historic bed-and-breakfast, such as the DuPont Mansion Historic Bed and Breakfast, or splurge on a stay at the Galt House Hotel with views of the Ohio River. While in Louisville, stop by Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, or take a tour of the Kentucky Bourbon distilleries. You can also spend some time exploring the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, or spend the day relaxing in one of the local parks.
